Where to Keep Documents: Device or Cloud

Choose one of two places

There are two places to keep documents: "This device" and "Cloud". If you choose this device, the document stays only inside the browser and is not uploaded to a server. If you choose the cloud, the document file is stored on our server.

If the file must not leave your hands — an internal document or a contract, say — choose "This device".

Which is better

1. This device — works without signing in. No limit on the number of documents. But if you clear the browser’s storage or connect from another device, the document is not there.
2. Cloud — requires signing in. The same documents appear on your other devices. Free accounts can keep up to 5 documents, up to 25MB each.

The location does not change by itself

Signing in or out does not move documents you have already stored. The location only changes when you choose it yourself.

Separately from storage, while a Word document, PDF or e-book is being opened, the file does not go to a server. The browser reads the file directly, and downloading also finishes inside the browser. There are three exceptions — format conversion (Word↔PDF), opening formats that must be converted to open, such as PowerPoint or Excel, and "Arrange pages" on a Word document. In those cases the screen tells you before you press the button.
