They open — after conversion to PDF
When you upload PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx), old Word (.doc), OpenDocument text (.odt), spreadsheets (.ods) or presentations (.odp), web pages (.html) or Markdown (.md), they are converted to PDF and opened, because this site has no editor for those formats.
The browser cannot do this conversion, so it happens on our server. The file is uploaded to the server and the converted PDF comes back. The screen tells you this before you press the button, and you can stop there. Nothing is kept on the server after conversion.
What changes after conversion
In PowerPoint, each slide becomes one page. Animations and speaker notes are not carried over. Apple Keynote (.key) works the same way.
Excel is laid out on pages as if printed. Formulas are frozen into their calculated values, and wide sheets may be cut off. If the workbook has several sheets, every sheet is included in order.
Old Word (.doc) and .odt carry over their text and page layout as they are. OpenDocument spreadsheets (.ods) are laid out as if printed, like Excel, and presentations (.odp) become one page per slide. But since they become PDFs, you cannot edit the body text.
Web pages and Markdown carry over text, headings, bold and lists. Tables in web pages carry over, but tables and code blocks in Markdown may differ from the original. Styling (CSS) and images loaded from outside are not reproduced as they are.
What does not work yet
We actually tried converting .rtf, .csv and plain text files (.txt) and then blocked them. With rtf, large parts of the text went missing; with csv and txt, the conversion itself did not work.
On 2026-10-13 we converted 7 sample Hangul (.hwp, .hwpx) files and made them open as Word. One large document came out broken after conversion and would not open — when that happens, the screen tells you. OpenDocument spreadsheets (.ods) and presentations (.odp) were tested on 2026-09-18 and opened — tables, Korean text and the number of slides came through intact. For FictionBook e-books (.fb2), we converted 3 sample files (UTF-8, windows-1251 and one with images) on 2026-10-13 and made them open as Word. For Apple Pages (.pages), we converted 4 public sample files on 2026-10-13: ordinary documents kept nearly all their text, headers, footers and footnotes, while a page-layout document came out empty — in that case you will be told on screen. For Apple Keynote (.key), we converted 3 public sample files (old format, 2013 and 2018) on 2026-10-13: slide text and tables carried over, but presenter notes and comments did not. Apple Numbers (.numbers) is not supported yet because amounts came out blank.
The original file is left untouched. The converted PDF or Word document does not overwrite the original.
