Highlight and Annotate a PDF Free

Add highlights and notes on top of a PDF you are reading and download it as is

Tools you can use

When you open a PDF, you can mark directly on its pages. There are six tools — highlighter, text, rectangle, ellipse, line and pen — and five colors: yellow, red, blue, green and black.

For example, run the highlighter over important sentences, circle parts that need fixing with a rectangle or ellipse, and write what you want to say with text.

Steps

  1. Choose the PDF file.
  2. Go to the page you want to mark.
  3. Choose a tool and a color, then drag on the page to draw.
  4. With the text tool, click where you want it; an input box opens, and what you type goes into that spot.
  5. Press "Download with annotations". A preparation screen appears briefly (about 5 seconds on the free plan). When it finishes, press Download and the file is saved.

Good to know

Marks are burned into the page. They look the same in any viewer and when printed, but in exchange you cannot later pick out and erase just those marks. Keep the original file.

If you added even one character with the text tool, a font file (about 2.5MB) is fetched when you save. This is the same whether the text is Korean or English, and if you are offline, saving fails. If you only added highlights or shapes without text, nothing is fetched.

This screen is for adding marks. It cannot delete, rotate or reorder pages.
